About EBSR

The Eye Bank Society Of Rajasthan (EBSR) was formed in the year 2002 by a group of retired civil servants and some other Social workers to mitigate the plight of visually impaired persons by eliminating corneal blindness from Rajasthan. It is a Non- Government, Non-Profit making organization and is registered under the Rajasthan Cooperative Society Act (1958) and also under Human Organ Transplant Act (1994). It is authorized to undertake all functions related to Eye Banking, under HOTA.
It is a well-known fact that the functions and role of an Eye Bank revolves round the basic concept that corneal blindness is treatable through Donor Corneas. With this objective in view, EBSR has embarked upon a massive awareness programme to educate the general public about need of eye donation so as to bridge the large mismatch between availability and demand of healthy corneas.
The significant feature of this organization has been shouldering the responsibility of counseling the families of the deceased by the members of the eye bank in Government Hospital at Jaipur to donate their eyes. Today the organization has the support of over 100 members at Jaipur and significant number in different chapters. A large number of well-wishers are a source of its strength.
EBSR covers most parts of the Sate through network of its chapters and collection centers at Ajmer, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Pali, Alwar, Bhilwara Bundi/ Bara/ Jhalawar and ShreeGanganagar . These Chapters /Centers function under the guidance of the parent body at Jaipur. Their function is to undertake awareness campaigns and collection of corneas.

The main function of Eye Bank are, motivation, advocacy, collection, preservation, evaluation and distribution of corneas as per standard prescribed procedures. All these tasks are performed by trained professionals maintaining highest quality standards. Only those tissues are distributed which are certified for grafting by the Medical Director, an expert Ophthalmologist. The tissues are distributed first to Government Hospitals in Rajasthan, then to private Ophthalmologist in the state and thereafter available corneas are utilized any where in India through Centralised Distribution System (CDS).
